So desperate to connect you fake an entire history, piggyback on the trauma of 9/11 survivors becoming their leader and focal point, hoodwinking a grassroots support group and then an entire nation. You are Tania Head, the 9/11 Faker. You crazy motherfucker. We’ve all told a little lie, told a bigger one to cover it up and ended up in our own mini conspiracy. But this was calculated, persistent and holistic bullshitting – she made it her entire identity. Tania, you ain’t right girl. Very fucking far from it.

There were many extraordinary stories in the wake of 9/11 – Tania’s could hold its own with the best of them. She was on the 78th floor of the South Tower, above the point of impact where only 19 people are thought to have survived. Her fiance Dave perished in the north tower. She suffered terrible burns to her arm from burning jet fuel. Then there were the nightmares and the terrible overwhelming sense of loss. It was an incredible tale but human missiles had just taken out two of the tallest buildings on earth, slaughtering thousands – anything was possible.

“You sense the genuine survivors are still grateful for her energy and commitment to the cause. Just a pity it wasn’t hers.”

Tania became the driving force and catalyst behind the 9/11 survivors movement. She claimed to have been rescued by Welles Crowther the red bandanna man who perished saving people from the burning South Tower. Crowther’s parents Jefferson and Alison were sweet, dignified and witty as they spoke about their dealings with Tania. It’s interesting that as the genuine survivors talk about her betrayal, you sense they are still grateful for her energy and commitment to the cause. Just a pity it wasn’t hers.

So where did this gigantic Spanish flagcracker come from? According to La Vanguardia, A Catalonian newspaper, Alicia Esteve Head comes from wealth and is no stranger to controversy. Her father and brother served prison terms for their roles in a financial scandal in 1992. Friends say she never fully overcame the shame. But no one really knows why she flew thousands of miles to the United States on the wings of a lie to become the heroic survivor only she knew she wasn’t.

“Maybe it’s not so surprising. We get third parties to handle everything these days. Now we’re outsourcing grief.”

Her fall from grace was swift once the difficult questions started being asked. The family and friends of the fiance Dave she cited had never heard of her. Merrill Lynch had no record of her employment. She enrolled in a business class in Barcelona 10 days after September 11. No one has heard of her since her lies were exposed.

The wells of loneliness inside Tania “off her fricking” Head are quite frightening to contemplate. What depths of desolation propel a girl to embrace martyrdom like it was her last plateful of doughnuts? Maybe it’s not so surprising. We get third parties to handle everything these days.
