Salamander BBC4 episode 2 review | Suicide monde

Ambassadors episode 2 review

BBC Four

Previously on Salamander: sophisto scrotes fuck over a bank vault filled with secrets of the powerful. Procureur-generaal Persigal sends his rottweiler Vic Adams (Koen van Impe) after Gerardi and Vic is not a man you want to play with. Paul is already under surveillance from two dudes in a silver Ford Focus watching his gaffe. When he contacts the PNC (or whoever has their job but in Belgium) they won’t let him run the plates. They’ve been informed not to give him any information – the Feds are up to their bloodshot eyeballs in this back covering farrago. When Andre‘s garrotted piss stained body turns up in a frankly abysmally staged suicide it’s clear that “they” will do anything to cover-up “their” misdemeanours. Watch your back Paul!

When Andre’s garrotted piss stained body turns up in a frankly abysmally staged suicide it’s clear that “they” will do anything to cover-up “their”misdemeanours.

He’s been suspended for two weeks for… reasons. A sympathetic Martin runs the plates for him and let him know it’s a Ministry of Justice car on his case. He has to take possession of his gun his badge and gun and Paul thanks him for his kindness by telling him to piss off. Martin does just that, handing the gun and badge to the Ford Focus people as he pisses. He’s unwillingly compromised in this like so many other people.

But Paul is not a brother who gets compromised and he shakes his tail by bombing over the back garden fence and in a hot minute he’s running his detective game all over town. He’s not around when Vic breaks into Casa Gerardi scaring the living shit out of wifey boo and hot daughter Sofie. Threats are made and there’s some understandable yelping from the chicks.

While this is going on Paul is heading towards the Jonkhere bank. When he arrives he grills Robijns who folds like a lawn chair under some pretty risible pressure. Robijns confesses it was he who marked the 66 safes but can’t say who made him. He’d rather shoot himself in the mouth than reveal such a thing. In fact he does just that and when Paul is done wiping brain and skull fragments of his face he realises that they’ll pin it on him as a murder because that’s just what Belgians do.

When Paul is done wiping brain and skull fragments of his face he realises that they’ll pin it on him as a murder.

So he’ll need to GTFO and to this end he takes Vic’s homeboy hostage and skedaddles. You best believe Persigal is pissed. Gerardi is a fugitive on the run like Amanda Knox only with better skin and a better alibi. For some reason he takes the opportunity to visit a monk. I bet there’s a story behind that one. Maybe not an interesting one but still.

With no one branding him yet heist genius Joachim Klaus sifts through the vault material making photocopies. I mean, that’s just common sense right? He’s writing letters to all the nobs presumably with some awful demand is attached. What a rotter.

The verdict: Robijns lives on in our memories.
