Ambassadors episode 2 review

Heroes Season One Finale

NBC

Heroes has been an unqualified success. Critics love it, audiences have been strong and the ensemble cast have story potential sprouting from every orifice. This one can run and run and there is every indication that it will do just that. Yet much as I like it, Heroes doesn’t quite grab me as unmissable television. They need to spend more time developing the characters and their inter-relations in the way Lost does rather than concentrating on their fabulous powers are and how they use them to get out of tight situations. My favourite moments this season were probably between Mr Bennett and his daughter. The transformation of the stone hearted company drone into loving father who would take a bullet for his daughter resonated. Say what you like about the speccy turd. He loves his Clairebear. For my part, I just want to stick her in her cheerleader uniform and have special cuddles with her. Just saying, is all.

In the end Peter Petrelli, the human nuke, couldn’t stop his incredible explosion problem so his flying brother Nathan, the newly elected Congressman, flew him Eight Miles High to save New York from getting its collective bollocks blown off in a conflagration that would make 9/11 look like an excuse for rich widows to lure their dead husbands’ married firefighter buddies into affairs, divorce and remarriage.

“Sylar gets kebabbed by Hiro, as foretold by Isaac Mendez, so everyone’s favourite time-travelling tub of guts finally fulfilled his destiny.”

Sylar gets kebabbed by Hiro, as foretold by Isaac Mendez, so everyone’s favourite time-travelling tub of guts finally fulfilled his destiny, managing to save the doomed Ando along the way. This is what I don’t get – do some of Isaac’s prophetic drawings come true and others not? What’s the spread on any given prophecy being fulfilled? I have no doubt that the storyliners will come up with some explanation based on Hiro’s time travel but you can’t help but feel a little cheated.

But never mind. We found out Mr Bennett’s first name is Noah and this has been a consistently good show from the get-go.

The best thing about it: Hiro

The worst thing about it: Mohinder’s "philosophical" narration.

The verdict on Heroes Season One Finale: If I was The Invisible Man I could think of a hundred things I’d be doing before saving New York.
