 Kevin Bishop Show review

The Kevin Bishop Show

Channel 4

The Kevin Bishop Show is very poor and there are two key reasons for this. The ultrashort length of the sketches exposes the pisspoor premises ruthlessly.  There’s no hiding behind sharp one-liners or snappy impressions (not that this dick can do either of those – his leaden-footed humour and jawdroppingly poor impressions seeing to that). Secondly, Kevin Bishop naturally inclines towards comedy thuggery.  He has an unerring eye for the lowest common denominator and, when pressed for a punchline, will choose the cheap shot, the base humour or schoolboy pun every time. Suggest nuance, subtlety or cleverness and Kev is all “talk to the butt”.

A constant in his work is material involving gays that is borderline homophobic.  From the Comedy Showcase pilot that earned him the series,  28 Gays Later

"The pisspoor premises are exposed ruthlessly. There’s no hiding behind sharp one- liners or snappy impressions (not that this dick can do either of those)"

Now, other than days rhyming with gays what the fuck is the point of this sketch? Does it do anything other than show some flaming queens running across Westminster Bridge?  Hell no.  Is it funny?  Fuck, no.

Then, this from the first episode of the series: Groundhog Gay

"Is it anything other than some flaming queens running across Westminster Bridge?  Hell no.  Is it funny?  Fuck, no."

Are you fucking serious?  That’s a fucking joke is it? I’m not down on crude humour – I defended Bo Selecta, for Christ’s sake.  But these are two entire sketches where the only joke is that gay rhymes with day.  Then there’s The Bourne Realisation where Jason Bourne realises… that he is gay.  And that’s the fucking joke.

"Don’t listen to these punk motherfuckers. Listen to me. This is Aerial Telly speaking. The Kevin Bishop Show is cheap, lazy, unfunny,  and cretinous. He has no shame."

It gets no better – sketch titles like Dangerously High School Musical and Bridget Jones’s Diarrhoea tell their own story. You have to pinch yourself to make sure you haven’t dreamt some of the skits.  How an effort based solely on how you can read Sky 2 – BBC 1 like a football result can get past a script editor is anybody’s guess.

It has received half-decent reviews.  Don’t listen to these punk motherfuckers. Listen to me. This is Aerial Telly speaking. The Kevin Bishop Show is cheap, lazy, unfunny and cretinous.  His Tim Westwood impersonation is embarassingly bad.  His Gary Lineker has a Birmingham accent as he says “I’m from Leicester!”  He has no shame.

This is the comedy Bonekickers.  Kevin Bishop is quite possibly the world’s unfunniest cunt.

The best thing about it: The Guantanamo Bay toy sketch was almost funny,

The worst thing about it: Using gay as a punchline. Thrice.

The verdict on The Kevin Bishop Show: Kill yourself if you like this.
